A CHILD KILLER GOES FREE : DOES ENGLAND HAVE THE RIGHT MENTAL ILLNESS NETWORK TO CONTAIN SUCH A DANGEROUS CRIMINAL?

Child killers, that class of criminals that begins committing crimes at an age when most children are barely past their first mischief, are ones that needs a sophisticated and committed network to receive it if they are to be let back into society.

Such is the case of one of the 'child killers' that shocked the British two decades ago.  This boy, now a man, is set to be paroled again, in a matter of weeks.

The murder was heinous.  A little boy of two was abducted with the premeditated intention of killing him, then beaten with iron bars and bricks and lastly dumped over a railway line.

While both of the so called 'child killers' have been set free two years ago, Jon Venable, the alleged instigator of the crime, was incarcerated again for having child pornography in his computer which he then also distributed to others.

He is now set to be released again, having served his time for the latest offense.

But Jon Venables is not a victim of circumstance.  He is a profiler's worst nightmare.  A violent criminal from childhood and one whose fantasies run to the lowest forms of degradation and violence.

Venables is now 29.  But that is not a determining factor.  His age does not mean he has reached some level of introspection or remorse.  This man is a danger to society, and will most likely re-offend.  What is more worrisome, is that there is not a very sound network to monitor his actions fully, and to offer him the kind of psychiatric management he needs.  Although he was caught having child pornography on his computer, his everyday actions are not monitored, and even less, without psychiatric care and/or confinement, there is no way to tell when his mind might turn to murder again.
